Jean Pierre Beltoise dominated a saturated Monaco Grand Prix of 1972. Driving a BRM P160, he outdrove the entire field leading the race from start to finish. The image depicts the winning car plunging downhill from Casino Square to Mirabeau

Ferrari - The First Grand Prix Victory by Nicholas Watts

Ferrari 375/F1

It was at the British Grand Prix at Silverstone in 1951 that Ferrari achieved its first Grand Prix victory. The image depicts the tremendous battle between the eventual winner Jose Gonzalez, driving the Ferrari 375/F1 and Juan Fangio in the Alfa Romeo. Gigi Villoresi (shown following), also in a Ferrari, was to finish third.

Spirit of Le Mans by Nicholas Watts

Alfa 8c 2300

Luigi Chinetti's second victory at Le Mans in 1934 was notable for his outstanding driving and his pit crew's ability to produce chewing gum on demand to stem the flow of fuel from a fractured petrol tank. Driving an Alfa 8c 2300 with Philip Etancelin, it was to be Alfa's final victory at Le Mans. The image depicts Chinetti leading an Aston Martin Ulster and a Lagonda through Tertre Rouge.

Targa Florio 1972 by Nicholas Watts

Ferrari 312 PB

The Targa Florio was reputed to be run in the most hostile environment in Europe. Raced over the toughest roads, this year the Sicilian road race ran foralmost 500 miles, over 11 laps, of the tortuous Piccolo Circuito Madonie. For the 56th Targa Florio in 1972, Enzo Ferrari entered just one of his powerful 312PB sports-racing prototypes. Driven by Arturo Merzario and Sandro Munari, the car set the fastest lap in practice and dominated the race itself.
